Maryland is now home to a LEED™ Platinum apartment building. The first of its kind structure in the state – Verde at Howard Square Apartments – is located in Howard County, Maryland. The Platinum certification by the United States Green Building Council represents its highest possible rating. The building features 299 apartments and numerous amenities and is part of a 47 acre mixed-use development. The project was developed by Atapco Properties, Inc. and is managed by The Dolben Company.
Advanced Building Performance, Inc. (ABP) commissioned the primary building systems including HVAC, domestic hot water, lighting controls and photovoltaic (PV) array. The large PV array is expected to produce 390,000 kWh annually or the equivalent of approximately 35 single family homes. In addition to its energy efficient design, Verde at Howard Square includes many other sustainable features designed to improve indoor air quality and tenant health and comfort.
ABP is an independent, high performance building consulting firm. Since 2003, ABP has been at the forefront of the commissioning industry in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area.
