Sagamore Spirit opened the doors to its new world-class distillery in South Baltimore this weekend. This significant milestone was four and a half years in the making. Co-founded by Kevin Plank, CEO of Under Armour, and Bill McDermond, the goal of the distillery is to return Maryland to prominence in the rye industry.
Advanced Building Performance, Inc. (ABP) provided commissioning services for the HVAC, domestic hot water and lighting control systems as well as for the water valves of the iconic water tower. The project will be certified under the Baltimore City Green Building Standard. ABP’s involvement began during the design phase and extended through transition to the Sagamore Spirit staff.
A ribbon cutting for the facility was held on April 20, 2017 and attended by Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh, Representative Dutch Ruppersberger, Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford and other dignitaries. The project is also the first component of the major Port Covington redevelopment.
Three buildings are located on site: Distillery building, Processing building and Restaurant building. The architect was Ayers Saint Gross of Baltimore. The general contractor was Whiting-Turner. Construction lasted 18 months.
